Are You Burning Toxins in Your Home?
Years ago, we made a decision behind the scenes that we're really proud of - and honestly, it's one we should've talked about more. We moved our entire fragrance range to be completely phthalate-free.
It started with us asking harder questions about what was going into our candles. Because if something is going to burn in your home - in your bedroom, your bathroom, your kitchen, the spaces where you breathe and rest and live - it should be something you can feel good about.
Are you burning toxins in your home?
It's a confronting question. But for millions of people burning conventional candles, the answer might be yes - and most of them have no idea.
The culprit is a group of chemicals called phthalates (pronounced tha-lates). They're widely used in fragrance to help scent project further and last longer. They're found in a huge number of candles, air fresheners, and scented products on the market.
Phthalates are classified as endocrine disruptors - meaning they can interfere with the body's hormone system. Studies have linked phthalate exposure to reproductive issues, health and cardiovascular problems.
Most of this research relates to everyday exposure through personal care and household products - and candles are one of the most regularly used scented products in the home. For people who love burning candles daily, knowing what's in them matters.
The good news is that phthalate-free alternatives exist and perform just as beautifully. Which is exactly why we made the switch - and why we've never looked back.
Why we don't use phthalates.
When we looked into this properly, the decision wasn't difficult. We removed phthalates from every fragrance we use. Completely.
What was difficult was getting it right. We reformulated. We tested. We went through rounds of trials to make sure every scent still performed exactly the way it should - the same throw, the same depth, the same notes you already know and love.
"Removing phthalates was non-negotiable for us. But so was making sure every scent still smelled exactly the way it should. We weren't going to compromise one for the other - and after a lot of testing, we didn't have to."
Our candles burn in bedrooms. In bathrooms where people start and end their days. In kitchens where families cook and gather. That felt like a responsibility we couldn't take lightly.
So we didn't.
So we removed them. Completely.
We made the decision to go fully phthalate-free across every fragrance we use. Although you've been burning our phthalate-free candles for years now - we just thought it was time you knew the full story behind them.
For us it comes down to a simple principle - if a better option exists, we'll always choose it. Our homes are where we rest, recharge, and spend the most time with the people we love. Everything we put into them should reflect that.
What makes ours different.
Most mass-produced candles source their fragrance overseas. When candles are made at scale for large chain retailers - think your Kmarts, Walmarts, and fast homewares brands - fragrance is often sourced from offshore commodity suppliers across various countries, where ingredient standards and controls can vary significantly. To hit a low price point, something has to give. Often it's the quality and integrity of the fragrance itself. And because brands aren't required to disclose exactly what's in their fragrance formulation, most customers have no idea what they're actually burning.
We make our fragrances here, with a local Australian perfume house. Every scent in our range is developed in collaboration with our perfume house here in Australia - which means we know exactly what goes into every fragrance we use. Our formulations are also approved by IFRA - the International Fragrance Association - which sets the global safety standards for fragrance ingredients. It's the benchmark the industry is measured against, and every one of our scents meets it.
Clean fragrance doesn't mean weak fragrance. This is probably the biggest misconception we had to work through ourselves during reformulation. Phthalate-free doesn't mean less scent, shorter burn time, or a fragrance that doesn't perform. We worked closely with our local fragrance house to ensure every scent in our range holds its own - the throw, the depth, the way it fills a room. You don't have to choose between a beautiful fragrance and one you feel good about burning.
Every single product we make - every candle, diffuser, incense, and mist - uses only phthalate-free fragrance. No exceptions.
And because every candle we make is customisable by scent, you can get any style of candle in any fragrance from our range. The right scent, in the right candle, for every room in your home.
